“This is love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to take a step without feet.”

Jalal ad-Din Rumi

..............................................................

We were both single, footloose and fancy free

dancing the fandango, all over the glitzy town

Lynn you were, the apple of my eye

and there ain’t a woman

who could hold a candle to you

you were brash and super confident

and I loved you so

even though I didn’t let it show

maybe you knew all along

but hell, we were independent

not looking to settle down

we both followed our egos

colossal confidence we shared

burning the candle

at both ends of the wick

enjoying those Friday and Saturday nights

when we chased our dreams and moonbeams

we shared something real special

God, we were ahead of the game

Time spread its wings

and we followed our single paths

who knows, when it happened

it's immaterial to the game

and I often wonder

where you are now

married or divorced

or maybe single and lonely

but one thing is for sure

I am certain

that we will meet again

I don't know, Peter. It's been my experience that the memories are far sweeter left where they are ... sometimes the relationship pales when forced back into the light. Very well done.

Another wonderfully tactile write Sir Peter the Skillful. The image superbly compliments the sentiment of this piece.

Whether in this life or the next, it is good to hope that we will see another, especially those who have touched us so undeniably.

Peter,
You quite adeptly give new meaning to the term "the one that got away", in this very bold enterprise; collosal confidence, indeed! LOL
Life can hand you some very unique twists and turns...and opportunities..

May all your romantic dreams come to pass!
Love&Prayers, Rhonda awesome graphic & quote!

Totally ADORE the Rumi quote... totally intoxicated by your application of it and bowled over by its power. Has the classic lyricism of all the old 60's ballads about forever-love and soulmates... seems the 60's was the quintessential era for understanding of these things... Must be the John and Yoko factor!! :)) I hope Lynn gets to read this... who knows... she may just have signed up to AD... stranger things happen, Peter...!! LOL Kate xx

This reminds me of that song by Harry Chapin
Taxi
how two old sweethearts meet up again

I once met my first love on a subway platform, in manhattan, maybe 12 yrs after we dated.

Wow.....time sure changes things! lol

He recognized me......I would not have remembered him, until he spoke.
But it was sad. He became all full fledged junkie, in jail, and rehab....he had just gotten out a few months before when we met. So he was healthy. Although he had his teeth knocked out of his pretty face in jail, and lost tons of weight. When he was young he looked like a finer featured version of Patrick Swayze, but after looked like a Egyptian mummy with hair. Poor guy.

He was the only one from my past(that I cared for) I ever ran into
with the exception of an internet connection.

My senior high school boyfriend contacted me after 30 yrs to bust my chops for not going to our 30th renunion.

Now we email occasionally and send each other jokes!

Life is weird huh......
Don't care to meet anymore!
Memories are safer.........

An entrancing memory Peter...we all have our once in a lifetimes haunting our heart but even more amazing is when the answers to all those "I wonders" are revealed and a once in a lifetime becomes unexpectedly and sublimely two!

I think this sums up the topic of hot loves that got away quite truly. I think we all had at least one wild crazy lover who was either a hellcat or wildcat and who we will always wonder about. Also as your poem suggests we alway seem to wait for their return good or bad.
