this is a big problem in NY ... fortunately, there are many programs which help the homeless but unfortuntaely, there is not enough funds to help them all ...

I hear ya, I was there, 20 odd years ago, on the streets in Philly, never can I pass a person out there without giving them something, some token, even if only a dollar, whatever it is I have to spare, and then sometimes more...Ended up one night going home with just a sweater on, giving my down jacket away to a guy, in a cold dark alley one night, he looked almost dead, but boy did he brighten up when he put that jacket on...wonder where he is today? I am of the opinion that a 'Social Conscience" is the sole property of Poets and Bards.
I have also written on this subject, mainly from personal experience.
This is a well written and presented piece, one that i would keep.
