With the Tide I Sail
White-capped waves attack the rocky coast of my Nova Scotia home
They try to turn to rocks to sand, you’d think somehow they’d learn
Perhaps like waves I too should learn, a little about love and life
Just when you think you’ve mastered it, it cuts you like a knife
The fog is thick as old pea soup and the foghorns pierce the night
They can’t drown out the seagulls scream as he tries to find his mate
I too would like to scream her name but it would be all in vain
She turned her heart away from mine and I have only me to blame
I scorned her love for midnight lust and broke our bonds of trust
Now I hear the Captain call his orders and I’ll do what I must
Hope the years erase her memory but to the sea I’ll go to hide
I wish I could turn back time, but I’m sailing on the tide.
