Prisoner’s Last Stand
In jail he waits and marks the days
Till he can walk through freedom’s gate
Till he can use a toilet with a seat
And never turn his back on fate
Till he can see his kids again
Maybe take them to Micky-Dees
Till he can eat that fast food
And laugh at what he sees
He wants to hold them close at night
To tuck them in their beds real snug
To read them bedtime stories
In front of a fire on a cosy rug
He wants to go to parent’s night
To school pageants and the like
He wants to take them fishing
Watch them ride their first bike
So he sits and watches the sunset
Prays to himself let me survive
Till I can get paroled to home
I need to try and stay alive
The prisoner turns to see the trustee
With an evil grin so filled with lust
And he knows what the trustee wants
The thought fills him with disgust
The strip of sharpened metal
Slides down his sleeve into his hand
The trustee shivers only once
Cause he failed to understand
Now the prisoner knows all hope is over
No release program for him no more
The blade makes one more cut
He joins the trustee on the floor.
Felix, thank you for reading me and for all your wonderful comments.
