A Sailor’s Song
I ‘m a fisherman and a sailor …so brave and so true
I sail Newfoundland waters and Labrador too
We hauls and we hauls till our holds are all filled
Then sail home to St Mary’s when the winter turns cold…
My father’s own father was a man of the sea
My dad was a fisherman always will be
And when his time ended he passed on to me
The love the ocean and the call of the sea
My wife waits in the kitchen and stares out to sea
Drinks her coffee with rum as she worries bout me
The winds from the North a pitiful dirge start to play
The waves in the cove froth and cause her to pray
But her light in the window I can see from afar
My boat bobs through the channel by the light of a star
I climb up the hill to her arms waiting there
I’m a sailor me darling, but I love you my dear.
