I must soon leave to go away for the weekend but these thoughts were haunting me, my first book that I wrote was a poetry book consisting of mainly funny poetry (often naughty) about my family. I hand copied in journal books one for each of my eight brothers and sisters as Christmas presents...amazing but now twenty five or thirty years later I still see those old books on shelves in my families homes...

When Did I Become A Writer

I am not sure when or why I began to write

It was not school related I can tell you that

My early educational benefactors

Never learned that imagination was where its at

It may have been I learned to write from a book

Not a "how to book" but one of the many

adventures I devoured as a child

Or it could have come later when I learned

I could make people laugh with funny poems

some naughty some mild

Perhaps young romance shaped my hand to write

When I put thoughts of love and desire to pen

Watching as sweet eyes misted in my words afterglow

Time seems to have faded my powers since then

Mayhap it were the power of the broken heart

That honed my abilities to unburden the pain

As computer age came in the door and love fled

Much quicker could I release what could never be again

I hear laughter in my ears, my children’s laughter ringing

then Poppy’s girls contributed many a smiling page

Or perhaps my view on the world around me

Has made me want to express the wrongdoings of my time and age

Ah truth be known I began to write the day

I opened my eyes to the world around me

Writers are born to spread their hearts, souls and minds

So all those who do not have the gift of words can see the things we see...

What a most beautiful gift and wonderful legacy, Felix. Priceless in terms of both sentiment and value. I am sure these are volumes that will be eternally treasured - and what a historical document... even if a little "stretched" in terms of the truth! :)) And when did you become a writer?? Well, you said it, Darlin... You were BORN that way and gifted to bring life through your words to others. Love this, thank you. My first poems (January 2004) are handwritten and stuck onto art papers in a hand-bound book which I can still smell the scent of... It thrills me now, just thinking of it... Kate xx

Dear Georg,

The last stanza here is a treasure.

I started writing seriously about twelve years ago, (yet I didn't know it then) was a piece about all my brothers and sisters-in-law and their parents with humor and pathos. How I reached them the day I read it aloud. That started it like yours. Thank you for this beauty of a poem..

love,
Kathy

P.S. My husband had eight brothers and sisters too.

I believe we all write because we are deep thinkers. We hear man's questions and we take their quest for answers to ponder. Thinkers believe their answers and so we beget poetry with all the diverse answers. We are kindred spirits to the people of the world and their burden is ours at time. Being the generous souls we are...we take the problems, write a poem and then the answers are motivated for others. Your poem here, is an awesome answer...as I said, to the queries of the world.

Love,

Susan

Fee,
I have often pondered these thoughts, too. Funny enough, I always hated poetry in school. Every school assignment which asked me to write a poem was one in which I threw a temper-tantrum. I guess my teachers knew better than I that my life was destined on a course towards writing. As I have always said, I think we must "live a little" and experience life before we grasp a full appreciation for the beauty that is poetry and literature.

Nice reflective poem and I hope you have a nice weekend getaway.

It is so true, Fee, writers see things other mortals fail to see. We feel pain and just a little deeper, experience passion just a little more intensely, and feel the need to share our life with the world. Your words touched me perhaps because I can so easily identify with them. Lydi**

You received the gift of expressing yourself and the world around you that few ever receive. I myself am not a writer, as my English professors can attest to, but God gave me the gift to write simple poetry and I struggle to do that. Write on Fee
