I am in the process of writing a new book about Canadian Navy during WW II and I have to admire the sailors who manned the ships during that era...

Blood and Brine

By: Felix L. Perry

On the waters tossed and trembling

Where there was nowhere they could run

Brave men stood their watches

By the moon and by the sun

Soldiers did their part its true

Can’t forget those airmen too

Yet when you died upon the briny sea

King Neptune claimed what was left of you

Doing convoy escort on the Atlantic blue

Dodging U boats in wolf packs

Never once shirking their duty

Guns thunder empty casing stacks

You fought beneath the flag of freedom

For the ones denied their right

Blood and brine all too often

Mixed freely in each ocean’s fight

Now in Flanders Fields the poppies grow

But a sailor’s soul on each wave will flow

With anchors set and calmer years

We will not forget to shed them tears!

Wonderful tribute to the men and women in all forces. Without them what would this world be, would we still have our freedom? They were and are forever our heroes and we give them thanks.

Love to you cuz,

Fee,
Sometimes we Americans forget that our neighbors to the north are fighting right alongside us. I met a Canadian soldier in the airport in Philly a couple months ago. He was on his way home on leave from Iraq.
We chatted a spell, then I got him to see the reasoning behind my statement..."When In Philly, Why not get a Cheeseteak?"
We did, and I very much enjoyed his company.

And the braves of them all, the "Murmansk train" going from and back, from and back, never thinking twice, never thinking of quitting.
Those sailors and the survivors are heroes too.

Very interesting poem Fee. I have my uncles Navy memoirs and was transribing then. He was on the USS O'Bannon and the USS Savannah. That was a fierce war. Write on Sweet fee. This could be a great war novel and it's about time someone wrote one for this generation.

Susan
