For my Dad who I miss dearly...

Poem Artwork

The Last Train Boston

By: Fee

He sits alone at a window corner table

Looking tired, aged and old

His dreams tucked away in a suitcase

Rotting and covered in mould

Hands that were once strong as iron

Now tremble just holding his cup

His eyes were once sharp as an eagles

Now squint to just see just good enough

His clothes that used to be so stylish

Now hang on his frame like rags

He sits all alone by the window

Amid brown paper parcels and bags

As he waits for the 6:40 to Boston

That old train like him is running late

It’s the last trip he’s going to take

His son told him a home was his fate

He took roses to say goodbye to Mother

Buried by the church where they wed

He gathered his worldly possessions

Inside he feels like he’s already dead

He walks to the end of the platform

Sees that train roar down the track

One more step and he see’s his salvation

Now he’s gone and never looked back.

Fee, I am a train riding junkie and had to read your work, but when that picture loaded, I knew this would be good, and it was.

Thanks,

"...the train, like him, is running late..." and with just one lonely step he was free...
Don't put me in a old-people's-home corridor chair to wait for God.

Fee........ the deep deep sadness of this almost robbed my breath and I nod to Kate's note: I sure hope this didn't end the way it sounded.
Of course we all are afraid of getting old, we all die a little everyday. But isn't there hope for the years of our golden autumn? Life filled with memories we can re-live if we allow us to? Life filled with wisdom and those knowing twinkles in our eyes that youth cannot possibly have?
I sure hope so....
Love,
Becca~

Oh my goodness... is this me or is this ambiguous... in the way he faced that oncoming train, Felix? I hope it wasn't what I'm thinking. This moves me to tears as the descriptions are so intense and visual. Especially so as today is my Mum's birthday, who's almost been "gone" now two years... Doesn't seem possible. As always, your poetic tenderness and compassion wraps us in the silken glove of your own dear heart. Bless you, Kate xx

Masterfully written Fee. It gave me the chills. I'd be the one in front of that train before anyone in my family would ever go to a "home." The graphic sets the stage for your pen of gold.

Marcia
