I have always had a fascination for the old West and gun fighter ballads and so I let my muse play with this one...

 The Ballad of Desire-re

By: Fee

I could have done things different

I might have found a better way

With Whiskey dreams and saddle sores

I went looking for my little stray

She was wilder than a Texas wind

With legs at least a mile long

Her liquid eyes were ocean deep

Too me she could do no wrong

Hair as golden as a prairie wheat field

She went by the name of Desrir-re

I met her in a Dakota dance hall

Said she would always love just me

When she smiled she lit the heavens

Made every man’s heart skip a beat

Then one day I found her with another

It was then I understood her dancing feet

Three bullets from a six-gun

One for he

One for she

One for me

Love struck I had chased the wind

Now in graves will lay us three…

Awesome ballad! Speaks of the Old West - and all its 'flavor.'

You can still see pictures [like the one you included with this poem] in many old saloons here in the West. Are you sure you weren't an old west cowboy in a past life?

God bless you. Kathy

I've been to that dance hall in Custer, South Dakota, Fee. The bullet holes are still there. I think they had your name on it, too.

I like this write a lot. It carries a nice note of the old west with it. Just mind those guys with the shot gun, Cowboy, and you'll do allright!
Loved it.

Welcome to our end of the world. You did this so well, I can only imagine what would come out with you standing on the banks of the Rio Grande or the rim of the Grand Canyon.
Enjoyed this little piece of Fee.
