Nova Scotia Sea Chanty
By Fee
I’ll sing a sea chanty of the tides and the waves
Heave away laddies ‘tis away we must be
I’ll sing of the lassies that we leave behind
Heave away laddies our sails running free
I’ll sing of the treasures on a privateer’s boat
Heave away laddies, I spy open sea
I’ll sing of the battles, of Nelson’s own fame
Heave away ladies, for the Captain and me
I’ll sing of a maiden, whose heart I did break
Heave away laddies, oh how I’ll miss she
I’ll sing of my home, on Nova Scotia's shore
Heave away laddies, now no land can we see
Now the last song I sing, is to Neptune below
heave away laddies, away we must go
The sails are raised and the anchor we stow
Heave away laddies before the first snow
May the good Lord, protect his bounty to show
Heave to, me laddies, and let the winds blow

Can I suggest a small thing for your final line?
"Heave too now me laddies, and let the winds blow" -- breaks the chanty rhythm.
"Heave to, me laddies, and let the winds blow" -- restores the chanty rhythm, provides a natural pause, and makes a great ending to the song. No big thing, though.
I am so glad to see that the sea chanties, though lost, are not forgotten.

Like brother Ed said, why no one take the effort to write them down?

PS, did you know that Marines march singing their own "chanty"?
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
Sad, indeed - so much interesting history has been lost to us over the ages. But I do like your Sea Chanty, and that gorgeous pic, my friend.
