Do You Remember?

Do you remember when you see an old photo

that first time that a girl with the innocence of youth

smiled at you and your heart began to flutter

like a thousand tiny butterflies had somehow

flown down your throat and somehow

became trapped inside your chest?

Can you recall, if you close your eyes and look back,

the first time you found yourself alone with her

maybe walking home from school

on a warm fall day after you notice

she has blossomed over the summer

into the most beautiful thing you ever saw?

Do you sometimes wonder what happened to

that little girl sixth from the left on row two

who towered over you by a good four inches

but could make make the boy fifth from left top row

feel clumsy as a new born just his sweating hand

in a game of Red Rover at recess?
