Gram's Apple Pie

So long ago but close your eyes and remember the smell of cinamon and apples baked in a wood stove...

Poem Artwork

Red apples from an old wicker basket

Slightly bruised and winter burned

Woodstove heating up a country kitchen

As the pies already baking are gently turned

Lots of cinnamon and sugar

Golden pie crusts made from scratch

The smells of pies fresh from the oven

As she again puts in another batch

She smiles down at her little helper

And says she needs the twinkle in his eye

Oh sweet child that’s my secret ingredient

In your old Gram’s bestest apple pie

When done Gram takes the left-over pastry

Gives a smile and wink to her favorite boy

Makes for him some special apple tarts

Just to see his little eyes light up with joy…

this brings back fond memories for me Felix -- not from my grandmother's baking, but my mother's -- she let the children make little animals with the left over dough -- then she sprinkled brown sugar and cinnamon on them just before they were taken from the oven -- yum, yum -- with a glass of cold milk -- I actually thought I was a baker at one point -- silly me -- love this story -- peace and love to you -- JMW

You know what Fee? Grandmas and apple pies just go good together. You've told the tale well. I remember as a child sitting in Grandma's kitchen, and whether it was apple pie or homemade buttermilk biscuits and gravy, both were sweet to me. Ah, thanks for the memories!

I remember my sister and I walking five miles to bring our Nana a Shoo-Fly-Pie...we didn't even know what it really was, we just liked the name of it and bought it for her...
She later told us she hated Shoo-Fly-Pie, but on that day, she loathed in all its flavor!

Your poem strikes the warmth of home!

Love and Peace~

Oh boy does this bring back many fond memories. We did not have a wood burning stove, we had a coal burning stove and a toilet with a pull chain too. Fond memories.....

Be always safe,

My Gramma made the BEST apple pie. I still have her pie dish, chipped and yellowed with age. It still brings back such memories of her and the delicious smells and tastes of her kitchen. I love the poem Felix.

You've got my mouth watering now, remembering back to those wondrous old days. No one bakes as good as Grandma did, and I've never been able to find any bakery, anywhere in the world, that even comes close.
