I look back at the times I spent at sea, both on large ships (icebreakers) and sail vessels and it is funny it is always the storms that I recall with fondness...

Poem Artwork

A Sailor’s Blood

I’ve seen winds whip the sea

Into a churned witches brew

Heard prayers go unanswered

Offered by Captain and crew

I watched skies above blacken

Into a dark raven’s ebony hue

I lashed myself to ship’s lifelines

When ‘twas no more could I do

Heard cracks of wind broken spars

Blinded by lighting time after time

Saw grown men crying like children

As we swallowed cold salt brine

Aye but twill be the lure of the sea

That is bred into a sailor’s own blood

To become as of his true nature

As Noah’s arc was to the great flood

You may take the sailor away from the sea but..

a sailors a sailor which forever I’ll be!

Sounds like a lifestyle indeed. A few kinks in the 3rd verse slowed the message, but it comes through nicely in the end. Hugs,

the connection you have so deeply rooted inside you
is your calling...the visuals here inside "A Sailor's Blood"
is riviting...I can only imagine through your descriptive words & yet
still never come close to what you experienced on your journey(s).
the passion is beautiful, but the reality of it all about the storms is utterly frightening...

What a beautiful photograph, I could stare at it for hours. A hard life, but so rewarding, beautiful writing from the heart...

Be always safe,

I think that I have mentioned before that my ancestors (being from Brittany, France) were fishermen who came to the Grand Banks off Newfoundland each year. Perhaps that is why I feel a pull of some kind when I am by the sea. Hence also perhaps why I find your verses meaningful, Fee. Thank you. Love and peace,

Regis

Fee I have never been in a sailing
But after reading your poem
The thing I too would remember the most
Would be the storm and I’m terrified of lighting
I too would be kneeling and praying
Brilliant write and images captured by your words
And your beautiful picture perfect words for that stunning
Memories of sailor’s
Wishing you Love Peace and Light…Yolie

Me too, though I have never been on a big ship or a sailing vessel, though I've done some small storms in small boats...specifically a 30 foot Osprey in a thunderstorm with but 12 to 18 foot seas... still it was very scary...Ed

Oh brother! North Atlantic and South China Sea storms, how can you remember them with fondness after they kicked your butt trying to drown your sorry soul four miles down?
But the poem was great!

No one can argue that the sea is a higher power for sure. Your poetry captured that fact very well.
