I think anyone who ever went to sea whether in a rowboat or an icebreaker has a love for light houses and their guiding lights...
PS: this particular photo was taken by Daphne Ross Hurst of Prince Edward Island, thanks Daphnee for allowing me to use this.

Poem Artwork

Lighthouse

Where land, sea and sky all gently converge

Along the mighty windswept Atlantic shore

The lighthouse keeper’s spirits still linger

Though no keeper lives there anymore

That light kept guard over that stretch of sea

For years heard waves pound shore in rage

She guided many a fisherman back to port

Filled in many an old sailor’s history page

Inside its spiral staircase steps are worn

Old timbers creak to the sound of the past

You can smell the memories of bygone years

Glimpse through salt opaque window glass

She stands tall and proud though neglected

Replaced by a new light a computers can run

To me she’s still the beacon on the headland

Standing sentinel duty beneath morning sun

This poem reminds me of my favorite soap opera that went off the air last year. Oldest running TV show ever, and it's gone. They used a lighthouse (Guiding Light) as their icon. I'd been watching for 24 years, and it's absence left a hole. I guess that's why I connected those thoughts to this piece; the mood here seems a bit lonely and nearly-forgotten. I like the last line for the image it leaves. Excellent work! Love and Hugs,
Sheila

I loved the lighthouse when we would go fishing by it. Its soft wail and the lapping of the waves was intoxicating. Nice work Fee.

lighthouses are nostalgia with personal story interests Felkix -- a unique life of absolute dedication for most operators -- an artist acquaintance of mine, Henry Parker of Gatlinburg, TN now, has captured within his renderings some of the most inspiring views and impressions of lighthouses and their lives -- may peace and love be always with you my friend -- Jon Michael

...I have always had a fascination with light houses, there is not a computer that can take the place of the stories a keeper can give~

I spent almost 4 years in the Navy but I never seen a lighthouse. But I would love to be able to enter one and climb to the top. Excellent piece of writing. my friend.

Wonder how sailors saw those lights on the horizon on a storming night when menacing winds were trying to rip the sails and push the wooden suffering ship towards the waiting ragged stones.
