A little different but saw this picture and it almost felt like a challenge to write about it so let my imagination go...

Poem Artwork

                                                        The Reunion

A full moon on the road helped guide his big steed

To their log cabin door he road on with great speed

Racing the chill in the air, with a purpose in mind

The rider kept coming on hard, emotionally blind

He rode day and night after getting the news

Weak, weary and wet from the cold autumn dews

Two long years, then four he promised her they’d wed

But war was his mistress, where he’d made his bed

She’d waited for him, pining all alone in those hills

Now she lay there dying of acute fever and chills

He pleaded to God and to the big horse that he rode

Please a few more miles and I will lesson your load

Then cresting the hill where home fires should have burned

He’d finally hold once again the women he yearned

Teardrops froze on cheek, cause somehow he did know

There was no smoke from the chimney, no gold lantern glow

Angels had come calling, sometime through the past day

Left him there grieving her in his own agonizing way

No one heard the gunshot that reunited them above

Nor seen him finally ascending, arms open, to his one true love…

All that from one photo? Stay away from my photo album, you old rascal, some things are better left unsaid. But seriously, Fee, a terrific write. Bravo. Thanks Dick

Such a sad story. I wish he would have honored her by living his life well, in her memory, instead of taking his own life. It is a coward's way out and always seems so wrong, to me. A strong person accepts grief as proof of a deep and vital love that is everlasting. Ahhh the tragedy of love withing poetry, so personal and emotional. Beautifully composed, Fee.
Take care,
Sherry
