A bit of dark humour.

Seasons End

The days were getting shorter,

so I loiter here with intent

and watch summers sad lament

while the remains of

a being are covered in cement.

Another box of burnt ash goes into the ground

everyone stood, their thoughts their own
as if pondering something quite profound.
The drumming dripping of rain on
broad autumn leaves the only sound.

‘Look at ‘em, bloody carrion,’ vultures badly clad in black
sitting upon towers of unsympathetic indifference
these thieves and vagabonds waiting to fill their sack.
They’re not fooling anyone, dabbing superficial tears.
An anonymous aunt, sour siblings, and other close family,
and that bloke, who’s a relative but who no one’s seen for years.

You had no use for him when he was alive
as for his existence? To you lot it was just a lie.
But here you all are, hapless beings of greed
and to think we all came from the same seed.

They’re all here,

like evicted woodworm crawling from the rot.
The egg and cucumber sandwiches wont make you ill

nor the warm weak beer…well maybe?

But the fact that he died penniless surely will…

And were it not my funeral, I’d shoot the bloody lot.

This composition is a picture of great percentage of the reality one can see at the end of one's season. I

Enjoyed the reading of "Seasons End".

Tell it, man! Love the kickass ending you devised. 'Unburiable
truth' you laid out in a brand new suit that is both appropriate and attractive. Reminds me of two sisters me dear departed mither swore had never missed a funeral. Kept hats and embroidered handkerchiefs at the ready. Filled churches and funeral chapels with wails and moans over "Whatsizname" and "Whosis." Thanks, man! ~~'Pea' <3

Too close to home, my friend. People show their true colors apon the demise of a beloved relative, don't they? Atmospheric! In that first
stanza(don't ask me why)I heard Justin Howard's voice from the Moody Blues('Knights In White Satin'),lol. This begs to be read aloud(hint). Have you ever tried your hand at playwriting? Give it a go. The ending line's a popper! I thoroughly enjoyed this, Paul. Does that make me twisted? So be it, lol...Lin

Having witnessed this sad tragedy far too many times in my life, I'd have to say that the human vultures are usually much more ravenous than the animal ones.

This is so spot on for many grave yard scenes, captured to perfection! Sometimes it seems life is all sham! Superb write Paul!

I am a firm believer in spend it while you are alive, because there is a really good chance that you won't like the way your kids would spend your money after you are gone. I have never even thought about inheritance, I want my mom to live forever!! Excellent write, Paul.
Take care,

So true to life and death. Perhaps peace and harmony do exist in the afterlife. I am hoping it does. A place that is season friendly where we say, "We have fruit, kernel, and grain. What's your pleasure, my friend?" Greed sure does clash with the satin-line casket. Telling it how it is, Paul.
