If you know the "in" language, feel free. If not, maybe not. The trick, of course, is knowing the diffrence before you speak!

                           Cute!

Go to Greece or Japan and we know

Instinctively how foolish it would be

To fake understanding, or try to speak

The words that we hear around us.

We’re less aware that in our own language

There are dialects that some speak fluently,

Which others cannot understand at all.

Of those, none is more insidious

Than the unique jargon of Cute.

What? Cute is just a word, you respond.

It’s simple. Everyone knows what it means.

It’s just punctuation you toss in

When there’s a lull. No big deal.

Aha! You poor sad sucker.

I’ll bet the farm that you’re a man!

Cute has dozens of basic meanings

(I’m not even qualified to count them)

Each defined by posture, context, expression,

And tones that almost sound Chinese.

Framed by sincerity, Cute is one thing.

Delivered with a shrug it is quite another.

Beware above all the dangerous question:

Do  you  think  this  is  Cute?

People who speak Cute know instantly

How to smile, and how to stand.

How, if required, to flick a strand of hair.

Most of all they can instantly pick

The kind of Cute the moment requires.

(Artful pause is a major message in Cute.)

Hey, I’ve gone beyond my limit

In describing what I don’t understand.

So I’ll just leave a little advice.

If you hear a question with Cute in it

Best be vague (“Blue looks good on you”).

If you’re aware you’re challenged by Cute

And if you value life as you know it,

Never utter a sentence that includes it.

Better to be mute in ignorant bliss.

At least you’ll live to talk another day.

Oh, my goodness! I remember needing to learn the proper curtsey before I went to Finland, my mother's birthplace. Everyone was doing it and the young man would click his heels!! Those were the days! Those were the days when a man was a man!! Baby puppies are cute!

Love ya!

I'm a man, so I don't know what the hell you're talking about. Last time I told her she was "cute," she nearly killed me. I'm still trying to figure out what it was that I said.

Yes. As a matter of fact I am. Seems that makes me inferior in your way of thinking. Maybe I am. So what? Some, like yourself, rise to the top like cream. Eh, a fact of life. We all really wasn't created equal. Cute poem.
