Thanks, Over and Done

All that thanks was exhausting
Thanks for this and thanks for that
Why not allow a year
For the pesky obligations to accumulate
Then meet them all on a single day
I’d welcome the respite with relief

Ouch! Instantly I feel
Intrusions from all directions
The urge to thank won’t leave
The warmth of family and friends
Love and good health
Fill me with demanding gratitude

Thanks has its own plan
It claims a place in my life
As large as life itself
And won’t stand still for a schedule
So I’ll thank as the urge arises
And Thanks will go on Giving.
