It had all changed with the stop of a breath watching that rubber bag being pressed into tired lungs it was the world that lay before me on antiseptic white the person who gave me definition and molded who I was to become
The HippoCRITIC Oath wrapped in a white coat exhaling freon, dangling a chart of predicted possible futures strolled up
“The brain has been denied more than 15 minutes what shall it be, the bag or do we hook him up?”
Visions streamed into consciousness of GI Joes perfectly posed for a boy needing a wall for support just to sit
I saw the eternal smile and the selfless concern of others in spite of this genetic monster eating muscles from this gift of the light
I watched the twenty-year count down coming to an end and remembered his fear of hospitals
and made the choice

what an open tragically haunted write; the images are so stark and quiet. .having read this, there are no real words to express for my part, only real emotions.

Gut-wrenching, Walter. Time stops right here - then starts again as this pain is released... I hope expressing this has been cathartic, like a deep exhalation of breath. At times like this, character and maturation take place almost instantaneously - you have to act first, think later. You did what you had to do and no-one else could do it for you. You had a brave choice to make - and made it: for the best, I am sure. Our medical professionals have a lot on their plate and I would not envy them the position that they hold at such times, treading a fine balance of expertise and compassion. Most are brilliant and naturally empathetic... but God help us if we get someone who is not at their perky best at such moments in our lives as this... they are part of the fabric of the decision and the memory. Bless you - and bless them in their unenviable task, perhaps. Poignant and honest. Thank you. Kate xx

Emotive subject matter. Very intelligently written..
God, this is a wonderful poem about a choice no one wants to make but sometimes it has to be done. you wrote it well and i'm sure your choice was the right one

On line fourteen:
"HippoCRITIC OATH" for HIPPOCRATIC OATH. It seems that the author used "HippoCRITIC" satirically - in lieu of HYPOCRITIC - to define the indifference of most health care personnel.
