Thoughts about the great land of freedom and opportuinity, on 230th birthday ... (1776 - 2006)
PICTURE OF AMERICA
Oh my country,
how should I paint thee?
High as a steel/glass tower,
symbol of corporate splendor?
Swift as a luxury condor
streaking God's skyway?
Rich as Wall Street money
machines belching greenbacks?
Brave as a new age Columbus
spuring the spinning globe
for space, dreaming infinity?
I swirl my brush about face,
into a rainbow of coral,
trimming a turquoise sea,
dip it in deep brown loam for
growing, dab caramel thatches of quiet, soothing gray antiquity...
And under an arch of cobalt blue
I scatter friendship flowers
amid regal redwood pillars
piercing the glint of heaven.
Then I paint in God's children,
living peacefully, enjoying the
beauty, accpting their color
and diversity; and I blend it
all back to the wramth and
simplicity of a split-log fire.
Oh my country,
if I could paint that!

I have an idea. Pain her with red, white and blue. Paint her with the majestic mountains and the beautiful lakes. Paint her with brotherly love and concern for all men both American and elsewhere. Paint her with the blood of Jesus Christ. That is a picture.
God Bless,
