A Baffling Situation Indeed

I miss those good old gone by days

When life seemed simpler and the air was clean

When women walked the streets in safely

Be it daytime or late at night

When men were gallant

Ready to protect both

Stranger and family alike

Somehow folk back then

Were patient and kind

They helped each other

And didn’t look for payment

They drove their cars with pride and joy

And gladly observed all traffic rules

They dressed appropriately

When seen in public

Not wanting to risk

Embarrassment

Today, Oh dear, how things have changed

Our youth don’t have any shame

They dress with no care for modesty

And show no respect

To the elderly

Today the air is so polluted

You risk health and longevity

With every breath you take

Driving has become hazardous to life and limb

As impatient drivers take leave of their senses

And try to beat the traffic light

As it changes to red

Women have to be careful too

Perhaps even dress in suits of armour

With protruding needles spewing skunk perfume

To stop would-be attackers

Dead in their tracks

And here I was thinking

That human beings were created

With higher intelligence

Than animals!

'Tis a baffling situation indeed!
