New Use For Brown Paper-bags
by

Children playing together
Can be so refreshing
They care not if their mate
Is pink or green or red
Or even covered in
Blue and yellow polka dots
What matters more than anything
Is that they’re having fun!
I would take a gamble
That if grown-ups
Were placed in a room together
With brown paper-bags over their head
And told to get to know each other
Asking no questions about
Nationality, Politics or religion
They would chat away with freedom
And find that they have much in common
And end up forming friendships!
Our world is so full of hate
You just have to watch the news
Friendships are destroyed before ever made
People have so much to share, so much to learn
But because of senseless pride and prejudice
And hunger to take control, end up fighting and killing
It would seem the only solution to this dilemma
Is the wearing of brown paper-bags
Then people will better respond
To God’s commandment
“Love your neighbor as yourself…”
We writers at the Den
Are fine examples
For the world to see
That people can indeed
Love, respect, and appreciate each other
In spite of differences!

A Psychologist, Dr. Clyde Narramore, had as his favorite saying,
"every person is worth understanding." That little quote is valuable to remember, as is your poem.
Connie
You are right about that. There's so much truth in this poem.
