Things I Knew

From 'that' moment I knew....

Heartbreak would be
A constant companion
For many days to come...

And those days would slip away,
One into the next, and night
Would follow, a willing hostage...

Life would continue,
Like a windmill caught in the breath
Of random winds...

Memories would haunt
Even as they eased the piercing hurt
That comes with loss....

And time... it would soothe
Those wounds that bleed
Tears of mourning...

But I did not know...

Broken hearts
Could not keep time.

Wonderful personal stuff, which we've all known to a degree, for whatever reason. Losing a love, an intense and deep love, is like no other human experience. You treat the tragedy with the painful helplessness awaiting any victim. Such suffering makes us stronger and smarter to go on with life... as you very well know how to do.

this is simply lovely...and damned good verse.
My favorite line...if I had to choose one would be the last stanza...Broken hearts could not keep time...for anyone who has suffered from one, this satement is so true.
Well done my friend.

Superb dear Myrna. Absolutely superb.
"Life would continue,
Like a windmill caught in the breath
Of random winds... "
is a beautiful stanza. The poem is sad and sweet at the same time.
Big Hug,
Marcia
