A first ever collaboration by Mr. F. William Broome and myself
Love's Chill
Dreams, tired and gray,
Sit, packed into boxes, crates
Filled with disappointment,
And strewn within the pages
Of dust-covered books
Lined upon shelves of indifference.
Indifference or simply accepting
That which they will not change..
Cannot change...
When does love end
How is the moment realized
When two who cared,
Who made love a forever
Admit that being in love
Is no longer valid?
What are the signs that love is gone..
Now bitter toward a once-loved partner?
Where is the heat of anger?
Surely flames of passion should
Flare from fingertips
Holding these sheets
Of marriage's failure!
They decide it was never warm here,
Yet neither could remember this chill,
Like a December frost
Killing the last hope of autumn's soul.
Hesitant, as a breath
Waiting to be exhaled,
Decisions made turn the page,
Sealed with ink of acceptance.
Inside, both weep for dreams, tired and gray,
They have little reason for believing,
And no motivation to rebuild
From that once long-ago love.
After all, it was never really warm here
Was it?

You two have conveyed the sad and painful truth of what happens in the heart when love dies and goes away. I have seen it happen much too often -never to be rekindled. Your words are deeply moving. Well done!

There is such undeniable truth in what the two of you have penned...I see it all the time and I don't know which scenario is sadder, the couple who recognize the end and amicably part in search of dreams though tired and gray, or the ones who do not, and live on with emptiness, but dream just the same. Something is simply missing that can;t be rekindled. Touching work Myrna and Bill...

A wonderful collab of two fine writers to create this questioning piece of romance gone sour. It is always amazing how people forget that even though they have stopped loving they did love at one time.
Questions, unquestioned discoveries, and answers in parable and rhyme…. This collection records a journey starting with a 1960s retrospective and the first man on the moon, moving to a new millennium welcomed in with a terrorist spin, family crises,
