When I Think Of Love

when I think of love, its faithfulness,
its wisdom and joy, I am in awe
for no matter who we love or how

we love its essence and truths
are equal to each other in all
its forms ... love is to be given

freely, offered with the noblest intent
of the gift ... if given with expectations
it has no value for its worthiness

or its generosity ... love should not
be questioned for its validity or its
steadfastness ... love can make itself

known by its presence alone, flowing
into the heart softly on a breeze
that catches the summer's kite or

roaring with the intensity of a spring
zephyr ... love is pure innocence
yet can burn with passion and while

love is unique, it is also comfortable
in its sameness ... it denies its
practicality even while it scoffs at

its magic ... love is gentle and kind
but fiercely protective, shimmering
in its complexity and shining in its

simplicity ... love is all these things
and more but it can be fragile, lost
to neglect or destroyed by abuse

and ignorance ... yet as surely as love
can heal others it can heal itself for
time is its friend and patience

its virtue ... I believe love is the spirit
of life, the keeper of the past, and the
promise of the future ... it is rich

in faith, embraced with hope, and
guided by truth ... I have been that
summer kite caught in gentle

breeze and have found love in that
roaring zephyr ... and now when I think
of love I pray that one day I will again
