Sorrow's Door


standing at Sorrow's open
door she had watched seasons
turn, had heard Spring giggle

its way to Summer and felt
Summer hang on endlessly
before giving itself over

to Fall ... and now that
Winter was whispering
its approach with every

breath, she wonders if
the time has come for her
to leave this place of

comfortable sadness, to
shed this warm cloak of 'only
when you're ready', and ease

herself from the shadows
that had offered their unselfish
solace and hidden her in

grief's silence ... as the chill
of indecision washes over her
she wonders if perhaps even

Sorrow has tired of her presence
here and is telling her it is time
to go, time to live ... she cannot

ignore the temptation and steps
into tomorrow ... Sorrow smiles,
closing its door behind her
