There is a story upon which this piece is loosely based.. just so you know I haven't totally lost it..))

Tears on a Windowsill

I found tears lying on a windowsill
today and wondered how long they have
waited to be noticed or if that was even

why they stayed and I tried to remember
when they might have fallen or what
had brought them here.... might it have

been when I laid my cheek against warm
glass and was reminded of another's
warmth or perhaps it was rain falling

softly that made me miss what I did not
have... could it have been the night stars
sang for me and I could not hear the words

or was it that day I heard tomorrow sigh
and knew it waited for me to visit... I never
meant to abandon my tears or to forget

their existence so I reached with fingertips
to touch, to comfort, to gather them within
my soul and I felt window's whisper...

realizing they were not my tears after all
I laid my cheek against the sadness
and wept...simply because I understood

That is just exquisite. Your best line: "I heard tomorrow sigh
and knew it waited for me to visit..." -- it left me breathless. --Charlie

Your poem expresses emotions that only one who has touched compassion and sorrow together can relate to...to understand and completely be enveloped with tears is to know...even tommorrow awaits as you have written it waits for us so we can understand...compassion...

extremely gifted work, Myrna...

enjoyed, Art sun...

"...simply because I understood." There may be a story attached to this write but even withoutknowing it the reader can pick up on the sadness and then the caring that comes with the realization that love can go on...

This is very beautiful, Myrna. Although you don't reveal the one who left their tears on your windowsill, the whole poem speaks of wistfulness and compassion. It has such a gentle flow to it, too. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
