I Hear a Sparrow

A tanka series which blends my love of the sparrow with the seasons as I 'see' them. I do hope you enjoy!

I Hear a Sparrow


I hear the silence
Of winter and am content
Until a sparrow
Feathers the quiet with song
And I know I must hear more


I breathe of springtime
And tiptoe into its scent
Of life, fresh and new
I am at peace, listening
To time bloom in sparrows' songs


Taste of cherry ice
On thirsty lips of summer
Sips of liquid prose
To quench my lemonade dreams
As the sparrow seeks his muse


I capture a leaf
Within hands of autumn
Touch its brittle beauty
Then let it drift, knowing
The sparrow and I shall miss it

...such gentle beauty in words...and love for sparrow...must hear the song of a leaf in flight also...fine poetry is evidence of this.

After reading your milestone poem, as oneof your all-time best, I read the words of contemporaries who love what yuou write almost as much as do I. Perhaps one word none of them has used is, maarvelous! Your poem reads with the tenderness of a mother speaking to her babe in arms... and with the beauty of Longfellow and other natre writers.
