Sightless Ink


In this world of sound and scent,
Of taste and touch, I must lament
And come to 'see' and understand
That wasteful moments I have spent

In faulty vision things once hidden
For my want of sight forbidden
Are crystal clear behind closed eyes
With gift of words gently given

Why could I not have sooner known
This beauty I was always shown
Not longed for what I could not see
But claimed these treasures as my own

To feel the touch of winter morn
And breathe the scent of springtime born
To taste each drop of summer rain
And hear sweet autumn's song forlorn

To know that with a writer's pen
I could paint of where thoughts had been
In colors bled from sightless ink
Those things once hidden deep within
