Matinee
From tree to tree
Flies an avian chorus
Warbling their hymns
Of summer contentment
To all who would listen
I hear their off-key offerings, unpracticed renditions of old favorites, and wonder... do they know how beautifully perfect their imperfect concert is? From branch to branch, tree to tree... from squawk to chirp. My soul applauds this uninhibited joy. My heart smiles. But I dare not applaud... not until the Sunday matinee is over and they take their final bows.
