Eraser

I collect my thoughts, my pen and inks
of muted shadows and colors bold, and I
gather the words to chart those paths

I've taken, those roads I've traveled, the
maps I've drawn of my existence.  I lay my
pen upon blank parchment allowing

every journey to flow, every dream to blend
with the many colors I've lived,  every broken
horizon and flawless sunrise to be captured

in the tempests of time and the still waters of life,
and every smile, every star shadow dancing
across the sky, to be painted as beacons that

continue to light my meandering footsteps.
I remember a quote that says "Life is the art
of drawing without an eraser." and as  my

heart touches upon this inked honesty before me
I realize that those words resonate within every
fiber of my being, pulse through every vein,

and shadow every breath, for though
I have never claimed to be an artist,
Nor have I ever searched for that eraser.
