I know not everyone enjoys structured poetry but I do enjoy the haibun because I can use structure and prose in one piece.. best of both worlds for me. This is a brand new haibun that I do hope is enjoyed.

A Child Is Born
Within Spring's new breath
The world blooms and the earth smiles
Morning rejoices
A child begins her journey. Time moves quickly but seemingly in slow motion to her inquisitive mind. She does not understand yet that her discoveries will be not ordinary. Her paths will meander through shadows and light. Her skies will be painted in her own colors.
Summer sun blazing
Lighting skies of indigo
And daybreak's splendor
A child grows in the arms of love. She is nurtured well. She is allowed to sprout her own leaves. To stake her own roots. To reach for her dreams in her own way. She learns of things no child should. She learns of things every child needs.
Autumn's random winds
Rearranging life's footfalls
Changing life's palette
Childhood's footsteps are growing silent. The child has become a woman. Her discoveries are not over. Her meandering paths are still taking her to unexpected places. Her life is filled with storm clouds and rainbows. Winds of disillusionment. Breezes of contentment. Heat of passions. Coolness of rain. Fate and choice. Sadness and joy. Believing and questioning. Uncertainty and determination.
Beneath Winter's cloak
Sun and Moon exchange glances
Dawn wakes sleepily
Time again takes control. Once a child, now a woman of years, she learns that age has little to do with wisdom. It is about understanding. It is about acceptance. It is about gratitude for every discovery. Every stumble. Every dream. Every lesson. She is still caught between shadows and light. She still paints in her own colors, though less vivid, less brilliant... but they are her colors, nonetheless. As winter approaches and her footsteps slow, her paths take on a new meaning. A memory to leave behind. A legacy to last forever.
A wonderful path of life through seasons. I was struck most by the phrase that the child learns what she shouldn't. I believe that happens in every life and breeds good character. We are so protective of children today it is very hard for them to grow up and take responsibility. Loved it, form and all.
