Have not shared a tankabun in awhile.. The tankabun is a form, similar to the haibun, developed by E.W.Richardson and myself a few years ago.. hope you enjuoy!

Bits of Me

Pebbled or graveled
Or just imagination
Scattered sand or dust
Paths of choice or destiny
Trails of fate or honesty

Words have taken me far and at times brought me close to home. I have traveled with them willingly, anticipating each journey. I have soared to places unknown. Spun through darkness. Flown into the light. I have heard the whisper of words. They have commanded my attention. Guided me. Surprised me. And often beguiled me with innocence or stolen my breath with undisguised truth. They melded and blended, formed thoughts, flowed into lines. Thoughts became poetry. Lines became stories. Both became an extension of 'self' as I have discovered. Pieces of me were scattered there, on every path, in each journey, often hidden but not truly hiding. Not always obvious but never oblivious. Not always glaring but never invisible. Not always speaking loudly to be heard... but left to lie quietly, to be read slowly, to be shared honestly. Never to be humbling. Never to be immortalized. They were merely those slivers of life, those moments gleaned, those thoughts that could not remain silent, those bits of me simply left behind... somewhere between the lines.

didn't manage to see or read this till just now
and i feel you've beaten me to it so to speak,
i'm in the process of writing something similar..
you mentioned great minds in the message..ah, well,
there must be something to it despite our mutually
avowed modesty!

gorgeous writing, as always, Myrna, a joy

Once again, the beautifully written poem with a message. Memories are like those thoughts you are talking about. They pop into the mind and when you link them together they form a unique story that is only of the author's existence.

Well my dear, this is a gorgeous piece of writing for which we must be grateful that you have left little bits of yourself that say so much. The most important 'bit' that you have provided is the content of your heart.
Cheers moi spp,
Dan

A most captivating poem that is left for our posterity to decipher what we have written between the lines.

Enjoyed this, and I like the form, of course. Congratulations to you and E.W.Richardson for coming up with it. I have broached the noun, and sometimes verb, "word" lately. My approach was more direct, which lends itself to be completely right or completely wrong. I like this particular tankabun approach, in that you treated words much like we live our lives. There are, as your title says, bits and pieces of all of us that never quite see the light of day, remaining, as it were, between the lines until the casket is closed and all we have left is what we have written and what we have done in our life. Even so, it is the bits and pieces someone, in the years to come, which will reveal much more about us than ever met the eye, but they will have to read "somewhere between the lines."
