Primitive Landscape
There is an unspoiled goodness found
along the bayous and swamplands that
surround me. It radiates through the misty
fog of morning. Its musty scent, both
pungent and pure, lingers long after
the fog has drifted away and the indigo
of a winter sky has settled upon the still
water. Beautiful creatures join in song
to greet this magnificence, this moss-draped
secret in time, this blending of nature's
artwork. And when the sun smiles upon this
primitive landscape all seems right with the world.
if i may borrow from Hopkins but his line came
to mind reading this celebration, Myrna, of your
surroundings - your heart is there and that is everything.
i enjoyed this so much.

The pragmatism of Houston and Texas for that matter, is to continually renew the landscape in favor of the latest thoughts about what beauty is. This means installing concrete trenches to eliminate the bayous and provide planned communities of houses very close together with manicured lawns and a striking lack of biodiversity. A life wonderful?
