Written in a form called a soliloquy...

The Wraith

I have felt the dark of night
And heard the tears of dawn.
I have often been an unwilling pawn
In the circumstances of life.

I have tasted the sweetness of rain
And breathed deeply of fate's scent.
In many moments of sorrow I have spent
My time and dreamed my dreams.

I have seen my hopes defined
By the cruel hands of fate
And I have written upon my slate
With chalk of many colors.

I have touched the sky with yearning
And waded in waters of faith.
I have bid farewell to the wraith
I once thought myself to be.

I now feel the peace of night
As joy and sorrow collide in my life.
I welcome the thunder and the gentle rain
That invade my heart, my soul, my dreams.
I will not allow myself to be defined
By the shadows of somber colors.
I accept and embrace this yearning
For all that I am yet to be.

Coming to terms with who you are, what you stand and won't stand for, and how you intend to live out your days are what life is about. I have accepted that we are all here to grow intellectually, morally, and spiritually. You have said much the same but with much more style and grace.

You write with such power from your vast writing experience and your life. There is magic in these stanzas that delights the soul. There once was a wraith that is now firmly grounded in writing beautiful poetry for all to enjoy.

Amen. Last two lines grabbed me big time. I understand also the pivotal lines, "I have bid farewell to the wraith / I once thought myself to be." It took me decades to unravel all the gossamer, web-like complexes of my life to understand the man who looked back at me in that mirror.
