The Promise
The mirror,
aged and streaked
with tears of past sorrows
and those of unbridled joy,
sits before me.
I find myself searching
beyond this moment,
seeking honesty that
comes only with accepting truth
within its reflection.
I see the flashes of lightning
that marked my journeys
and hear the peals of thunder
that followed my footsteps.
I feel the gentle rain
that once sustained me in my darkest hours, the relentless drizzle that reminded
me of time's nurturing spirit,
clothing me within its wisdom,
and never failing me.
I hear the whispers of another life,
another place, another 'me',
and I breathe deeply of renewal's scent
as unexpected tears
begin to fall, silently healing
my unsure heart...
There are no promises
for better tomorrows,
but there is the promise of life,
the promise of continuing
if I choose it to be so.
There is too the promise
that my thirst will be quenched
....if I but kiss the rain once more.
