Poem Artwork
What better way to woo those willing
Than offering something other than contrived
Semblances; winnowing unfeigned from pretense;
Fixing the bounds of clarity and shadow; calling those
Artless to walk quiet paths, and then, opening their hearts
To eternal Beauty obscured beyond the temporal…

As life propelled past innocence,
Hope sought soundness
Under the sun,
In prayer,
In music,
In nature,
In discipline,
In sculptures,
In another’s words,
In aesthetic striving,
In the faces of prospect,
In ancient holy manuscripts, in
The house of mourning and mirth, in
The rich marrow of doctrine;
For so many years
Grappling with restlessness,
When at last,
In vexation of spirit,
Vanity reached for something
Well beyond its grasp,
And, in desperation chose to
Walk another path- assumed - where
It sulked a season, laboring for the wind, as
Superbia sought out wizardly trusts (bade in mind’s eye)
In an attempt to adopt and apply arcana spoken of by
Mystical seekers; seers peeling the substrata of
Tellurian-being to reveal pearls of brio and
Coruscant creation.

But all was emptiness …

And even now,
As life continues,
I am afflicted often in
My thoughts and motives…
Apart from fruitless attempts– having
Been given only rare glimpses of BEAUTY
In curtailed cases, never more than a moment,
Never less than a lifetime- I question; will the
Cerement be placed [around me] in the
Absence of my ever knowing your
Fullness, or… is it only then
That your fullness can
Be known?

NOW, OF COURSE, WE CAN ONLY PEER THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY...SEEING ONLY A PART OF GLORIOUS, BEAUTIFUL 'HIM' AND THE PLACED WHICH HE HAS SET-ASIDE FOR US. A RESTRAINT SET IN PLACE BY GOD HIMSELF WHO, NO MATTER HOW WE FEEL, KNOWS WHAT IS BEST FOR US AS WE CONTINUE TO DUTIFULLY 'WALK BY FAITH'. FOR, AS THE WORD ALSO CAUTIONS; TOO MUCH KNOWLEDGE/CLARITY CAN ONLY BRING SORROW. THAT IS, THE TRAVESTY...OF COMPARING WHERE 'HE' HAS US 'PLACED' PRESENTLY ...TO THE AUDACIOUS 'ETERNAL JOY' THAT IS TO COME. THEREFORE, WE PATIENTLY MUST WAIT, THOUGH SOMEWHAT ANXIOUSLY, AND DREAM. WHEREBY, FOR THOSE WHO ARE PERSUADED...GREAT, UNIMAGINABLE REVELATIONS ARE BEYOND THE VEIL...WHICH OUR EXCELLENT GOD HAS PERSONALLY ORCHESTRATED FOR THAT GREAT WEDDING DAY, THAT CELEBRATION...THAT HE 'WISELY' ONLY ALLOWS US TO GLIMPSE A SHADOW, AN INCOMPLETE VIEW OF... NOW. FOR ME, HIS PLAN IS AN 'ENTICEMENT'. FOR MY JOURNEY IS DOWN RIGHT HARD HERE AND, I WOULD HAVE GIVEN UP ON IT LONG AGO BUT I KNOW HE KNOWS WHAT IS BEST. SO HE STRENGTHENS ME TO 'PRESS-ON' WITH THE OBSCURED GLISTENING OUTLINE OF 'THE REWARD'...THAT IS, THE 'SURE DESTINATION' THAT AWAITS ME. EXCELLENT, RICHARD...SO NEEDED AND ENJOYED, THANK YOU FOR THIS KEEPER! LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

To explore the oblique way beauty often chooses to exhibit itself is in and of itself a daring poetic venture. To lay bare the findings of one man, to expose without reservation the inherent vulnerability of such revelations trumps the daring poetic venture. For in the vulnerability do we truly give allowance for beauty to be as it will, show as it were, continue to remain illusive as it is. For who would want it any different, save the person who chooses to "catch" the truth, rather, as you and Kierkegaard opt out, to let it catch you. Believing as I do in paradox, it is often what others see as ugly that I find a transformative beauty. But of course, that is only me. I mention it because: "I question; will the Cerement be placed around me] in the Absence of my ever knowing your Fullness, or… is it only then That your fullness can Be known?" Indeed.

I see a lot of introspection in this piece. As usual, without looking them up, some words are confounding me, but the gist of the message appears to be clear that seeking the truth is not all that it's cracked up to be. What is true art and what is not is really not up to question. Popularity comes and goes. True art endures and grows.
