Storms never last...

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

When two souls are connected, they can hear each other, even in the silence of separation. You come to love not by finding the ideal person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly. Fictional characterization. 5-7-5 - 5-7-5-7-7

Poem Artwork
Crumpled handkerchief
In one hand, with no valise,
Shiv ‘ring in the rain
.
Today, he saw her
taken by the storm, drifting,
eyes wide and anxious;
‘Storms never last,’ he whispered.
‘Neither does love,’ she replied,
.
It’s good to see you.
A long time, another world,
my heart has yearned so;
those many times I’ve reached out
where the shadows overlapped…
.
Tomorrow this time,
I will not be here with you;
I must leave again…’
.
I’ll ignore the clock,
I don’t want to know the time
as long as you’re here…
.
On the phone that night,
I remember what you said,
‘nothing is perfect.’’

I know, and it’s true ,
this love so tangled, trying,
yet so radiant,
feelings snarled a thousand ways
trying to make sense of it…
.
How forlorn they seem;
these people brushing past us;
it’s only us now,
taken by the wind, away,
into another blue night…
.
Lying together,
Hair in gentle disarray,
Two in love still dream…
.
Tonight, he saw her
taken in love, exhausted,
eyes soft, satisfied;
‘Storms never last,’ he whispered,
‘Neither does love,’ she replied…

THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF LOVE. SO, EVEN IF TWO PART, AND THEY REALLY DID CARE FOR EACH OTHER, BUT AGREE THAT THEY WILL NEVER BE TOGETHER AGAIN...THERE IS STILL LOVE, JUST A DIFFERENT KIND OF LOVE. EROS CHANGES INTO AGAPE AND THOUGH THEY ARE NOT STILL 'IN LOVE'...LOVE STILL REMEMBERS THEM. STORMS NEVER LAST...BUT SOME LOVES DO, THANK GOD. SO ENJOYED, RICHARD. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS + INSPIRATIONS

Love the vignette, story-telling, mise-en-scene style and much of what you say is very understated and poignant. A fine poem.

A poignant view showing that most love is not picture-perfect, but flawed. Still, two souls can eke out a relationship from what remains. All they have to do is accidentally meet again after time has passed.

Your ending took me by surprise. There's much truth in that.

Ah, you just mushed up my heart like papier macher. I like this style of writing, I have a fascination for love stories, and this one satisfied the writer and the lover in me. Thank you .

Read like poetic flash fiction, yet the reality of non-fiction is stark, as many a relationship suffers, some die, some vanish, and some find respite somewhere, waiting, looking for the next storm of passion. Nicely phrased, Richard.

"Storms never last."

You are correct at the above line. And after, they do not last, and when they are over the mking up is fantastic!

This poem says volume and can be interpreted in many ways. Good one, Richard!
