An inevitable Autumn

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

She drifted alone dreaming... Ekphrasis.

Thursday, August 6, 2020

Poem Artwork
Today… being numb from self-examination, and
more attuned to shadows than the source of shadows,
she yearned for a pleasance of living without remorse,
or the wistful mulling of past failures, where true love
formed on the edge of breaking waves…
.
And so often, her centers were
consumed with all she’d been through,
(and not where providence was bearing her),
content [in her boat] to be alone, she languished
quietly for what was envisioned in
her many woolgathering’s,
to be whole of
mind and spirit,
to be caressed and
loved with no condition or fears,
fitted perfectly with someone who filled
the emptiness so wholly imagining another’s
heart beating together with hers in oneness
laughing and loving…
.
But all that she
hoped for remained as mist…
.
So she drifted,
pulling the oars lightly,
upon a stream purling lazily,
where ripples lapped the shores in
monotone, and her hearts garden erred into
an inevitable autumn upon which leaves browned and fell…

...SUDDENLY HER EYES LEFT THE WATERS AND SHE LOOKED AHEAD. SHE WAS STUNNED AT WHAT THE THOUGHTS OF HER INTENSE DREAMING HAD MADE HER UNAWARE OF. FOR, ALMOST UPON HER, THEIR BOATS ALMOST SIDE BY SIDE, WERE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BROWN EYES SHE HAD EVER LOOKED INTO. NEITHER SPEAKING THEY SAT THERE STARING, BOTH KNOWING AND SO GRATEFUL FOR THE BLESSING OF THIS INEVITABLE AUTUMN'S GIFT. BECAUSE I AM AN ROMANTICIST I SEE AN INEVITABLE AUTUMN THAT IS ACCENTED WITH THE ATTAINED GOLDEN REALIZATION OF EVERY ONE OF HER PINES...AND SO MUCH MORE! I JUST COULDN'T ALLOW HER TO STAY ON THAT PATH ALONE, RICHARD. SUCH A MARVELOUSLY, PROVOKING SHARING, MY FRIEND. THANK YOU. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Absolutely one of your best, at least in this reader's eyes. You have expertly phrased the wording to give ebb and flow matching the imagined water and oar synergy. The ending was so perfect... leaving us feeling that such dreaming will cycle back as seasons do. Just plain beautiful, Richard.

A dreamy melancholy of a poem beautifully rendered and most satisfying for what it sets out to do.
