Were You There for Me?

I was there for you,
the day the ice broke,
and into life you passed.

I was there for you,
the day the hurricane blew,
and the wreckage found you out.

I was there for you,
the day the sun broke through,
blinding all your fears.

I was there for you,
the day you took the test,
and disregarded all the rest.

I was there for you,
at that job interview,
where your die was cast.

I was there for you,
the day they arrested you,
just desserts at last.

Were you there for me?

Ron, a question that we don't have to ask of true friends, do we -- for they are always there for us just as were are for them -- this is very thought provoking and an emotional subject my friend -- may peace, love and joy be with you -- JMW

I thought of my brother while reading this...Lost contact with him, on purpose, for too many times he hurt me and mine while trying to help him face his addictions. He started at 18 and he's now in his mid forties...He now wonders why we aren't there for him? I am, but only through my prayers, some need to claim they have a problem before anyone can help...and another angle on this, could be, I AM there for him by grasping onto tough love!

I would so love to see the brother I used to know!

I'm sure this pen could take on a few roamers...in many directions

Good one!
Love and Peace~

Greater love has no man than this, that he should lay down his life for his brother. This poem speaks loudly to me as one who has been betrayed by many. Hurts... But thank you for this exquisite poem. Blessings, J'nia

Ronald, a very thought provoking write. Making me think about the times when I was 'not there' and should have been. Lets all hope we learn from the past.

Nice work,
Cheers,
Dan

This an emotional poem that leaves me thinking.
And I find this to be the kind of poem that readers can relate to.
Thanks for sharing.

Ron,

A loyal friend is indeed a treasure. Let's hope it worked both ways.

Hello Ronald,

Reflective and deeply incisive. It revives old memories of togetherness and "mateship" and lost times. Great poem.
