Too often, talent revealed results in too much pressure to please and ends in tragedy.

Flash in the Pan

The wick burns gradually but brightly its end.

When the trigger is pulled the flash to begin.

All it takes is a trigger for the hammer to fall,

the hammer comes down to a flash seen by all.

Followed by a roar as the audience cheers,

like shot out of a rifle, a star suddenly appears.

Leaving obscurity to fame, far and wide,

a newborn star can no longer hide.

Joining the galaxy of stars in the realm,

one needs to have someone take the helm.

If that someone manipulates the rest of one's life,

it adds to the pressure, causes more strife.

Too much, too soon, like a plug in a gun's barrel,

pressure without release, an explosion, will follow.

Whether it is an accident, overdose, or suicide,

paparazzi, fans or tabloids--one runs, but can't hide.

Demand for better and better working one's inside,

coming to a conclusion no one can abide.

A flash in the pan expended too soon,

another great talent has left the room.

Stark, harsh, and very real. A sad but respectful allusion to a very talented individual. I love the music of "The Doors." Your words remind me why I do not envy those who have "fame." Love and peace to you, Ron.

Fame is something that I've often thought about in a philosophical sort of way. After all the stories I've read and heard about famous folks, I don't think it's worth the price I would have to pay to have it. That is not to say, however, that I wouldn't like to be "anonymously famous" one day! I really like the depth I found in this poem.

This brings back memories of teenage years. The window fan and radio ran all night long. Very nice Ron.

I think the guy was so incredibly brilliant but I guess that height of creativity is some people, such as Vincent van Gogh is almost a utopia that they use substances to kind of be on a even keel but over did it.

Whether they be famous or infamous, the tale rings a sad note of gain and loss, made more poignant perhaps when so much is at state. A fine poem indeed.

Yes, Ron! My son and I were discussing a similar topic. Your words come together as always, so well and tell the story of the rise and fall of stars! Some burn out.

Love ya!

An insightful parable of sorts you've written, as all around us, such prevails. Too many people hide, rather than challenge the obstacles as a learning experience.

Ron, nice poem to commemorate a fantastic musician's long ago passing.
