A Taste Of Virtue


A squirrel flips its tail and runs up a tree,
makes a heckling sound as he looks at me.
He's jumping around like a bouncy ball,
leaping branch to branch, not afraid at all.

A black bird squawks and watches him,
circles round and round to make a friend.
A spotted fawn stands across the way,
Mother's out on a trip for the day.

Mrs. Rabbit is nibbling clover in a field,
her babies hop off up a hill.
A buck stands in a clump of underbrush,
a crackling wind causes him to lead in a rush.

A lizard rustles beneath a cluster of leaves,
looks at me like excuse me please.
Old Mr. Turtle waddles down a path,
like he's just got out of a mud bath.

Down in the valley two foals run and play,
tiring, stops to eats some hay.
Several buzzards watch them play,
waiting to have their last meal for the day.

I stand and gaze at this magnificent view,
rolling hills, ponds,a buttercup field reflecting hues.
I stare into the striking blue sky...
liquid fills my eyes...
as I give praise and thanks to God whom I'll never deprive.
