From " In the Garden of Illness.."
I wanted to give this poem to everybody as a gift that is on this journey with me.
I prayed to the Heavens
for a great teacher
dignifying, enlightening and steady.
With desperate pleas,
in silent conveyance,
that I, the student, was ready.
And so the Heavens,
obliged to my need,
send a great teacher
to answer.
When I asked him his name,
he smiled at me warmly,
bowed down to me
and said:
Jack London’s cousin writes a heartwarming, young adult story about the glory of life. It is also a heart-pounding adventure to a new and strange world.
This poem is exactly what its title states: "ENLIGHTENMENT".
