Sleep Doth Summon The Poet

Too dumb to go to bed when you're worn out and not making sense any more? Welcome to my world!

Write a poem?  when bedtime's bells have summoned those
with sense enough to remove their clothes,
pajamas don, and toddle yon to their cozy beds,
then let all rhymes and meters drain from their sleepy heads?

Foolishness!  when a weary day's work has ceased,
when eyelids droop and foreheads are creased,
feet are crying for relief, a place prepared for rest,
and wiser folk have long since retired, each to his nest.

Rhymes and meters, begone now!   begone from here!
Lo, a sound of snoring in my ear;
Perhaps this one time, to leave the keyboard would be wise,
I will succumb to slumber's call, and close my tired eyes.

there is no bedtime for poets, only when the poetry is satisfied can they rest. Beautiful pen.

I am reading this at 12:50 in the morning. Do most of my writing
between 11:00 and 3:00 a.m.!! So peaceful. So quiet. Ideas good
and bad knock on the door of my hideaway. How can I refuse to let them in?

You did the wise thing, but I suspect. . .never mind. We'll let it be our little secret.;)

Super poem, by the by!!
