The Battle for the Soul

 When a man is blessed
As he looks at his conquests
War plans strategized through immense thought
At the battles won before they were ever fought

When  dreams become real
The Deceiver comes to steal
When visions are realized
Pride can drown the swollen drunken eyes.

  ***

I saw as I was retold from the days of old. . . .
. . . . .Alexander the Great marching to destroy Zion’s walls.
On his white horse, riding tall
Dressed in his shining armor, dressed in his ALL
I saw Alexander marching to destroy Zion’s walls.

        His army covered with mud
Leaving a trail of blood
It raged as a flood
That never saw the Rosebud.

  ***

I saw as I was retold from the days of old. . . .
. . . . .Jaddua the High Priest greeting him clinging to the Sacred Scrolls.
Yet with his presence, the Greatest Holy God stood tall.
Dressed in his royal blue, trimmed in the sparkling gold, dressed in his shining awe
I saw Jaddua greeting him clinging to the Sacred Scrolls.

God’s chosen people shook  with fear
Completely forgetting Who holds them dear.
They processionally marched all dressed in their linen whites
They had been up fasting and praying for seven days & nights

  ***

I saw as I was retold from the days of old. . . .
. . . . .a Golden emblem Alexander dismounted for.
He had seen this sign in a dream the night before
I saw Alexander being read God’s Word.**

And as a city stood shaking
Fearful of an enemies mighty quaking
I saw a mighty warrior making a pledge taking
Saying “Heaven cannot brook two suns, nor earth two masters.”

  ***

When a man sees he’s blessed
As a man realizes his conquests
That the battles were won before they were ever fought
It rattles his soul after silently being caught.

How old, how bold
The objective becomes the goal
When things are foretold
The battle is for the soul.

  ** Daniel 8:21 & Zechariah 9:8

.Alexander the Great died in his own bed from a mysterious illness at the age of 32.
He is quoted as saying,” A tomb now suffices him for whom the whole world was not sufficient.” Another quote I especially like is “Remember upon the conduct of each depends the fate of all.”

And the battle is raging worse than ever! (IMO) Just a pleasure to read Doug. Your perceptions and analogies and research have birthed a muscular poem with abundant wisdom. Amen and amen! One of your very best!

This is incredibly complex and you make it accessible ~ philosophical and eloquent.

Douglas,
You said this so eloquently and story like. We are on the same wavelength these days. Read my Eleven:Eleven poem I posted last night, it is just the same but told more simply..a battle for the soul indeed.

We must know that times are changing and there is going to be even more battles to be won.

Nice work,
Much peace, love and light,
Amber

Tuberculosis: The Greatest Story Never Told by Frank Ryan

The heroic story of how a small group of people, few of them TB experts, found the cure for the greatest killer in human history. But the battle needed to be extended to all sufferers. Why have we failed to take the miracle to the developing world?
