Another thought provoking write, Liz. Your poem reminds me of the moment in "The Goonies" when the kids find the bottom of the wishing well. Sad and realistic. Hugs~

Shop of broken dreams -- how well you sum up a pawn shop. Amazing how true your penned words written with such reality are shared. I'll never look at another pawn shop the same. I never had a wedding ring before even though I was married 13 years long ago. One year I bought my own wedding ring for about $300 and ended up hocking it for sleeping bags for my two oldest going to camp. How your poem brought back memories of times past. Well Done! Deborah

Poignant. I recall the movie, The Pawnbroker, starring Rod Steiger as the wretched man who tried to help the down and out, but only hurt himself.

Thank you for this vivid and thought-provoking gem, Elizabeth. The things we accummulate [sp?:)] say a lot about us -- too much, I fear --, and the things we end up parting with [by choice or otherwise] give our stories twists. . .not saying this well. I think a lot about Things. Have this theory that devaluing them spills over to devaluing people. Or is it the other way around? Never one to go on about the 'good old days,' I nevertheless find myself wishing we could go back to a time when there were fewer things, and they were taken care of. Passed along rather than tossed out or piled onto yard sale tables. Lots of meat for thought here!! T h a n k s!! xOx Pea xOx
