Epiphany Redeemed
The rain had stopped raining
Sitting in the house made me blue
My dogs, a beagle, Simon and a lab, Milly, were restless
Before going batty I had to find something to do
I grabbed the dogs and their leashes
Full of vigor we headed to the park
Suddenly dark fell and street lights popped on
So we could see where we were going when Simon started to bark
Up ahead was a man dressed in black
Under each arm he carried a boy squirming and kicking
I knew the seven year old boys who usually wore capes
So I wasn’t sure who needed saving or escaping
My dogs rowdy, barking and ill behaved I let go their way
Milly knocked the man over wrapping her leash around his feet
Simon barked at the man attracting people to come around
Arriving late I made the man’s back my seat
The two boys in capes were shedding tears
I dialed 911 while Simon’s barking kept his head down
I reported the crime and calmed the boys fears
With sirens blaring Officer O’Malley came around
“Stay where you are. I’ll cuff the perpetrator.
Back up is coming to help us out
What are you boys doing out so late?
You’re lucky this lady was out and about.”
“We’ve never seen an old lady run so fast?”
The two cretins started laughing at me.
“I saved your lives and used my butt too.
Er…kicked some butt so don’t laugh at me.”
Officer O’Malley hid her smile and greeted the parents
Moms and dads were happy to take the caped crusaders away.
The man in black was taken to jail as I slumped on a bench
Officer O’Malley gathered us up and dropped us off on her way
Simon and Milly collapsed on the couch
I made myself some green tea
Pleased at the outcome of our crime fighting.
I could now forget about Sister and the bump she gave me.
Your poems all tell a story, and exceptionally well!!
