I wrote this several years ago for a dear friend who was going through a bitter divorce...

Wings

If I had wings as an Eagle,
Away far I would fly.
Far from troubles,
into the calm blue sky.
No strings to tie me down,
gliding from town to town.
Each day full of life-each one free,
Loving them, living them just for me.

O this reminds me of the conversation in my book between my mother and mamaw when they were snowbound one Christmas. It goes as such:
Mamaw Hench sucks on her pipe, a worried frown on her kind old face.
After a bit she knocks her pipe out and truns to her daughter.
'Ernie they has failed to get up the steep again- we are all stuck in this cold dank holler-we are prisoners to mother nature now.'
'O iffen I only had the wings of a dove-' 'Ernie cries and wrings her hands.'
'Mamaw glares at her foolish daughter and says, 'Ernie Cottle you ain't never gonna have the wings of a bird, not even these of a rain crow- now hushit here and now!'
Ernie looks stunned at this revelation, never the less she obeys the old woman.

It's a beautiful sentiment, Joyce, and perfect for a divorcing person. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Freedom is a right, but it has its price too. You wrote this one well. Victor
