Written for and about my sister who was killed in a drunken driving crash, when as a passenger she was thrown and crushed.
A single tear rolls down her cheek;
A sad and lonely one.
Her heart is hurt and breaking;
Another Christmas done.
No one seems to see her there, her face against the wall.
She longs for love, but still finds none;
And to her knee's she falls.
She asks for God's forgiveness;
For things she might have done.
Hoping He will hear her;
And send someone to love.
But still another Christmas passed;
God did not heed her call.
She longs to end this lonely life, of bitterness, strife, and scorn.
And so one Christmas Eve;
While everyone was gone;
This sad and lonely girl, passed on to the unknown.
No one seems to notice;
No one seems to care;
But on that Christmas Eve;
She found solace there.

A very painful write through tragedy...the loss of one's loved one causes us to think profoundly into our own immortality and how life goes on even when there is loss. Well written.
I felt a sense of peace, Jaci Rae, within even the beginning of your piece, with the single tear, it emotes many were shed, before. You give her beautiful all-unrest, after death, and terrible unhappiness, twined with yours, in frustration and confusion and helplessness.
In the end, she, and the author, discover 'otherness', and embrace its affects. Lovely piece, sad and giving.

As painful as the dark irony is within this poem, the depth of love that prompted its compositon makes it amazingly beautiful. Much respect to the memory of your sister and gratitude to the poet for sharing these blessed lines.

Certainly a moving piece reflecting one of the horrors in our lives. My daughter just recently lost her boyfriend to a car wreck. It was a time to reflect and once again appreciate this thing called life.
