The Legend
THE DOG
I took you from
Your mother at just six weeks.
Was it too young?
Probably!
But we grew together,
You into a beautiful dog,
Me into a sick Veteran.
When I laid there motionless,
You laid there licking my hand
To let me know it would be ok.
When you fought cancer, I fought
It with you. Staying there rubbing
Your paw to let you know that I am
There for you!
We fought many battles of health
Together, but then we got old.
One day your hips hurt too much,
The next day my heart shattered as
I felt the drug push the last of your
Life from your paw.
Thank you for all the nights curled up
To me as I laid sick on the bathroom floor.
I never can repay you. I just can’t let you
Suffer as I do!
For you are the greatest friend I have ever
Had. I can never repay you, only honor your
Memory with this poem.

Lying sick on the bathroom floor doesn't sound like fun. I hope you are better now.
